Announcement and Issues

• OpenBao v2.2.1 was released since the last meeting. v2.3.0 beta should be released in the next month.

  • Security vulnerabilities in dependencies, not OpenBao proper; may affect users.

• Large-scale code contributions (mail) - assuming Dev WG approves the contribution, should the TSC vote individually to grant ownership? Is the TSC amenable to this type of contribution?

  • General consensus was to use TSC exception process in existing MAINTAINERS.md on individual case-by-case basis.

• Marketing WG - Is there approval for me to start this as a top-level WG? Is anyone else interested in participating? (mail)

  • EdgeX & Open Horizon both had outreach WGs, saw benefits, but eventually participation dropped and merged back into TSC.

  • Will put to vote if we get sufficient interest.

• Supply Chain Security WG started by Michael Hofer (Adfinis) under Dev WG; did the TSC want to promote to top-level WG or happy with it under Dev WG despite broader scope of some line-items (e.g. OSPS-AC-01.01 - When a user attempts to access a sensitive resource in the project's version control system, the system MUST require the user to complete a multi-factor authentication process.)

  • SIG might also be an alternative; happy with this living under Dev WG too.

Decisions

• Should OpenBao start putting together recommendations for budget(s) in the event of direct funding?

  • Should OpenBao investigate how to and begin selling merch to fund the project and allow individuals to show support?

    • YC uses FourthWall which supports stickers

    • OpenSSF uses MySpreadShop, and also has stickers. Likely will prefer LF approved vendor.

    • Tabled until OpenSSF membership is decided

  • AI @ Alex & Community: Formally propose expenses to the TSC.

• Should OpenBao consider moving out of LF Edge into another LF subproject more suitable to our membership?

  • OpenSSF, CNCF, FinOS, and direct membership have all been expressed as options.

  • Staying in LF Edge is an option but we’re short two requirements for stage 1:

    • 1. TAC sponsor (only need one; EdgeX’s TAC seat is secure)

    • 2. A premier membership company.

    • Not clear status of IBM sponsorship desires.

  • Alex (March): Update on OpenSSF discussions

    • AI @ Alex - Send out E-Vote to approve starting the move process to OpenSSF (2 week)

  • Alex (April): Earlier vote passed, sandbox application is in-progress: https://github.com/ossf/tac/pull/461

  • Alex (May): OpenSSF TAC approved it, waiting for Governing Board approval.

• Increasing European representation; additional committers, Dev WG members, potential TSC members (private email)

  • Alex (May): If people are happy with recommendations put forth, will file e-vote or we can vote here. (mail)

    • Dev WG will vote on adding Reply, Adfinis after namespaces lands in a GA release.

    • Suggestion to TSC: Consider similar membership invitations to Reply, Adfinis if Dev WG votes to approve. Both will work on horizontal scalability next.
